About Granite Flue

Small operation, three services, the Black Hills only.

What We Do and What We Do Not

We sweep chimneys, we line them, and we diagnose fireplaces that smoke into the room, across Rapid City, Box Elder and Sturgis. That is the whole list. We are not a general contractor, we are not roofers, and we do not sell stoves or fireplaces - which means nothing we recommend is pointed at a second invoice.

How We Price

You get a firm number before work starts, and that number is what appears on the invoice. If we open something and find a genuine surprise, we stop and show you the photograph, and you decide. Nothing gets added at the end that you have not looked at first.

We give ranges on the phone and firm numbers on site, and we will not do it the other way round. A confident price quoted before anyone has seen the chimney is the most reliable marker of the operators this trade is known for - it works precisely because it gets revised once the technician is already on your roof.

What We Will Talk You Out Of

  • A sweep you do not need this year. A fireplace lit a dozen evenings a season usually has not earned one. An inspection settles it and costs less.
  • Relining a sound flue. Open mortar joints on otherwise intact tile get photographed and watched, not ripped out. If somebody showed you a dark line on a screen and quoted five figures the same afternoon, get the footage - we will read it for nothing.
  • A cap for a draft problem it cannot fix. Caps address wind-driven downdraft. They do nothing for a depressurised house or a valley inversion, and they get sold for both constantly.
  • A new appliance for a flue problem. The stove is almost never the cause. We measure before anybody discusses replacement.

Why the Photographs Matter

Everything we flag gets photographed and handed over, whether or not you buy anything. Partly that is how you check our work. Mostly it is because a chimney is the one system in a house that nobody can see, which makes it the easiest thing in the trade to invent problems about. Footage you keep is the cure for that, and it works whichever contractor you end up using.

Ask us something

We answer questions free and we do not chase. If the honest answer is that you do not need us this year, that is the answer you will get.

  1. Describe the situation in a sentence or two.
  2. We tell you what it probably is and what it would cost.
  3. You decide, with the photographs in hand.
